Kids Plus Accident Insurance

Kids PlusAccident Insurance

For your convenience, we have made arrangements for families to voluntarily purchase student accident insurance through the Kids Plus Accident Insurance program, underwritten by Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc.
Kids Plus Accident Insurance offers protection against the unexpected costs of injury from accidents, and is
especially valuable for families who:

· do not have medical or dent al plans,
· have limited plans, as it may help supplement health and dental benefits, or
· Have active children who enjoy sports and outdoor activities.

For complete plan details, please visit kidsplus.ca.

2018-2019 The Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance school distribution program has moved online!

All schools can now access kidsplus.ca/resources for information about Kids Plus™ which they can use on their respective websites, e-newsletters and social media. The main website at kidsplus.ca will continue to be available for parents to purchase coverage, access claims forms and full plan information online. Additionally, for 2018 Kids Plus™ decided to take their mission to be green one step further by discontinuing distribution of all Kids PlusNotices (Brochures) to reduce the overall paper use.

Please note that effective this September 1st, there will also be some changes to the Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance policy that will impact the Active Plan holders. Permanent Total Disability coverage will be reduced from $360,000 to $100,000 and Dismemberment or Total & Permanent Loss of Use from
$200,000 to $100,000. These changes were made in order to allow Kids Plusto continue to offer the benefits families use most, such as dental treatment and eyewear, with no increase in premiums.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about our new promotional landing page, our Kids Plus™ Client Service Specialists would be happy to assist you. You may contact Kids Plus™ at their Client Service toll-free line at 1-800-556-7411 or email kidsplus@ia.ca.

Walking or Cycling to School

Walking or Cycling to School

As we start the 2018-2019 school year, we would like to remind and encourage families to consider walking or cycling with children to and from school. There are many benefits to walking and cycling to school. It:

  • Improves student academic performance by making children more alert and better prepared to learn.
  • Contributes to the daily goal of 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous activity for children, improving their health and overall fitness.
  • Reduces traffic congestion and improves safety for everyone in school zones.
  • Promotes life-long habits that foster independence and active lifestyles, preparing children for their future.

For those who can’t walk or cycle to school every day, choosing active travel once, twice or a few days a week can still provide benefits. You can also consider parking a block away from the school and walking the rest of the way. Include active travel as part of your daily routine!

RE:  June 28, 2018 - Early Release Day

June 6, 2018

Dear DSPS Families:

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being.  On Thursday, June 28, 2018 an early release day will take place to allow elementary teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day.  These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thursday, June 28, 2018 only.  Students will be dismissed early that day at 12:05 pm.  Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time.  Parents/guardians whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Cowley – Principal                Stephen Louca – Vice Principal

York Region District School Board is revisioning its Multi-Year Plan (MYP) and Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement and Well-being. The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategic direction of public education in York Region public schools. The MYP incorporates the direction established by the Trustees with feedback received from all stakeholders, and will inform decision making at the Board in the years to come. Town halls will be taking place across the region and feedback collected from families and community members will inform the creation of a new MYP. Your voice is important and your input and feedback will help York Region District School Board support student achievement and well-being.
